Who Will Survive America?

This digital artwork originated while I was listening to Amiri Baraka’s “Who Will Survive America?” Although the song originated in the heights of the 1960’s Black Power movement and kind of has race-war overtones, the heart of it is that only those who are not racist will survive the country. P.s. the dude is an amazing jazz musician, but… to the Art – we’re all one people, all red-blooded bags of water underneath, no matter our skin tone, religion, politics, etc. To survive America, we all need to act as one, to lift ourselves out of poverty of the mind, spirit, and body. This creation endeavors to show us who we’ll be when we get over ourselves.

Clash at Demon Head Tribute

I was watching the Black Sheep video on YouTube from the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World and wanted to see if I could recreate the scene with the band Clash at Demon Head as fan art – it took way too long to do. So, background for the unfamiliar, the movie was a bomb but gained cult status, like most bombs do. It was based off a comic by Bryan O’Malley & launched the careers of many, but for this scene there are five, Brie Larson as Envy Adams (singer), Brandon Routh as Todd (the bassist) Tennessee Thomas as Lynette Guycott (the drummer), also Ellen Wong as Knives Chau dominates the crowd below with her blue hair. The plot would create a tl/dr post so I’ll skip that.

Closeup

Someone will say, “that’s not a bass guitar, loser!” – you are correct, but then the song could not have become a hit by Metric (the real band) with only a drummer, bassist, and singer. Truth is it was sucking up way too much time as is for a doodle. Anyway, give the movie a watch if you’re looking for something to Netflix.

Thomasin challenges Black Phillip to a game of #chess instead of signing his book. Neither win.

I guess it’s #fanart – @anyataylorjoy is in my top 5 actresses, mostly because of the #witch but also because the of quirky personality nuances beyond the beauty she brings to the The Queens Gambit

Eh, what else can I tell you about the process? Oh, this wasn’t a skin job (import a photo of a person and #render it to a model), it was actually a couple hours of staring at different photos and tweaking features (all 250 of them on the face) last night to get it right (just like old school #portrait #artists did). Of course, since I’ve never been good at realism, even with a brush, I couldn’t quite capture her. Mama Nature is definitely the best artist.

Black Phillip? I read an article where the director said Phil had the coolest garb when in human form, but the lighting in the movie (or lack of it) prevented the audience from seeing it. There are no pictures on the web of what he wore, and I also suck at modeling goats, so I improvised.

Haven’t seen the movie? Oh, here’s the trailer (or search for The Witch on YouTube – I wouldn’t click on just any link either (Cybersecurity plug):
