Ember’s Embrace

A colorful painting depicts a woman with her cat sitting by a roaring campfire in a forest. The scene is illuminated by the fire's glow and a starry night sky overhead. Trees surround them, and foliage is visible on the ground, adding an enchanting touch to this forest pagan setting.

From the imaginative halls of the Flights of Fancy Gallery in New York City, the latest exhibition presents a captivating painting that invites both admiration and contemplation. Titled “Ember’s Embrace,” this piece is a striking exploration of contrast and emotion.

The artist employs a vivid color palette that masterfully captures the ferocity of fire against the tranquility of a forested backdrop. The night sky, awash with hues of purple and speckles of white, suggests a cosmos that is both distant and intimately connected to the scene below. The foreground is dominated by a fiery silhouette that seems to draw energy from the flames enveloping it, creating a focal point that is as enigmatic as it is commanding.

“Ember’s Embrace” showcases a blend of techniques, with textured brushwork that adds a tactile depth to the forest, contrasting with the smoother strokes that define the figure and flames. This juxtaposition can be seen as a metaphor for the chaotic nature of life and the pursuit of inner stillness amid turmoil.

However, the composition does leave room for improvement. The balance between light and shadow is somewhat uneven, with certain areas of the forest receiving less definition, which detracts from the overall depth. Additionally, while the central figure is mesmerizing, its contours and the interplay with the flames could be refined to enhance the illusion of movement and transformation.

In conclusion, “Ember’s Embrace” is a commendable piece within the imaginary Flights of Fancy Gallery’s collection. It demonstrates the artist’s bold use of color and their ability to invoke emotion through abstraction. While certain technical aspects could be honed, the painting remains a testament to the enduring power of art to evoke wonder and introspection.Forest

What Sorcery?

A fantasy scene featuring a woman with flowing hair adorned with ornate jewelry and a gemstone headdress. She is extending her hand, casting red magical energy. She holds a staff topped with a dragon head, and her expression is fierce and determined—as if to say, "What sorcery?

What do you do when your opponent summons a dragon, but not the dragon you expect and have spells prepared for? This art grew out of mostly a failed deeper dive into some settings and playing with meshes, but I managed to turn it into something. I think that’s a win in itself. Today is … Read more

Hot or Cold

Anyone who’s been to high school, well, anyone who wasn’t part of the ‘in’ crowd, will tell you high school was not the best time of their lives. It’s something to hopefully survive and then go on to who you want to be. Some have it worse than others, because, let’s face it, short of … Read more

Woman on a Pedestal

I was going to try my hand at making music again today. You didn’t know I composed music? Trust me, the gods don’t want you to know. if you’re a glutton for punishment, there’s four albums worth buried somewhere on my website. But I digress! I was going for a spin on ye old FL studio and was, like, “today I feel like a better artist,” so, here you go. It’s a Sorceress, Druid, or Witch Queen harnessing the elements atop the crumbling ruins of a lost civilization. Seems fitting for our times, or at the minimum to satisfy my ennui. How’d she get atop a column so high? Magic, women’s intuition, or artistic license. I just put her there, she’s on her own getting down.

Inquisition Adjourned

I promise this is the last of the ‘based off stuff I’ve seen’ art – back to flowers and stuff this week in honor of spring. This was inspired by the movie “Coven of Sisters” (Netflix) wherein a band of women pull back power from a corrupt and unjust system. I won’t spoil it. This artwork is another version of that empowerment – I mean, wouldn’t it be great if someone could dig in the historical record and find a story of a clerical error (pun) allowing a woman to escape her captors and she goes off in the woods, forms a partisan brigade of other ‘witches’, and fights the Naz…. I mean the Inquisition. At a minimum that would make great fiction (idea credit please). Ambushes of caravans carrying witches to ‘trial’ or execution, a love angle, and pissed off popes – awesome 🙂 Has the Church even apologized for 40-100,000 people burned, hanged, or otherwise deprived of life and property?

Snowbound

During a harsh winter, she’s lost her way. The torch has died, the wind impossible. She comforts her companion, using her mana to create some warmth. Then, off in the forest, she sees someone, a stranger looking at her, wearing clothes unlike she’s ever seen before. Who is this person looking through a portal at her?

In Our Defence, Silence.

It’s been exactly 10 days since I’ve been able to create art as it’s been wage-slavery for the last two weeks. I needed to create. Don’t like it? I’m wearing the Melania jacket today. Although I could have spent a little more in post-prod.

Why? Because, sometimes something just needs to be. I’m busting through stereotypes about age, about witches, and a third thing, which I forget.

Video of Recent Art

I’m truly sorry I’ve not done anything in the last couple of days. I’m working through proposals at work (to pay for my art!) and skin cancer to boot, but last night at 3ish, I made this video of recent art (going back to October (ish). I’ll get creative again soon! I kind of want to do a full length video of all the artwork I’ve done, but it would be significantly longer than 2 minutes – more along the lines of an hour. Maybe over the holiday weekend.

Draw

Thomasin challenges Black Phillip to a game of #chess instead of signing his book. Neither win.

I guess it’s #fanart – @anyataylorjoy is in my top 5 actresses, mostly because of the #witch but also because the of quirky personality nuances beyond the beauty she brings to the The Queens Gambit

Eh, what else can I tell you about the process? Oh, this wasn’t a skin job (import a photo of a person and #render it to a model), it was actually a couple hours of staring at different photos and tweaking features (all 250 of them on the face) last night to get it right (just like old school #portrait #artists did). Of course, since I’ve never been good at realism, even with a brush, I couldn’t quite capture her. Mama Nature is definitely the best artist.

Black Phillip? I read an article where the director said Phil had the coolest garb when in human form, but the lighting in the movie (or lack of it) prevented the audience from seeing it. There are no pictures on the web of what he wore, and I also suck at modeling goats, so I improvised.

Haven’t seen the movie? Oh, here’s the trailer (or search for The Witch on YouTube – I wouldn’t click on just any link either (Cybersecurity plug):

Ascension

Ascension – Working title, okay, the title, because I’m lazy. What’s it mean? It’s a representation of time, sin, and absolution. If one can visualize that all time streams, past (a burning of an innocent), present (an exotic dancer), and future (I haven’t related the mech, it just looks futuristic) exist in the same space simultaneously, this is my take on it. It’s really either an esoteric exercise or a shifting of my thoughts throughout the #creation process, as my moods influence me as the moon influences the tides. Originally, I wanted a create a silly scene, a witch on a stripper pole (I’m a dude, 🤷‍♂️). It then became like a quasi-religious thing against the evils perpetrated on innocents over the millennia. Then I lost the plot, but it looked cool. For some reason while I was working this I was listening to a couple Murakami songs on repeat, including современная жизнь (a lot), Честности нет, 364, & 0 Km – so there’s your process. #new #artwork in the #wtf school of #art
