Back to the Beginning

I started doing art some 7 years ago after being inspired by clouds and birds on the way home from work. I know, I should have kept my eyes on the road, but, err, there were so many awesome vistas in the sky.

Today I hooked up a Wacom knock-off I bought 4 years ago, just to see if it still works. It does, so I whipped up this to see if I still have the acrylic skills I had built up, along with a closet full of canvases. I had stopped a couple of years back and got into digital art really for storage reasons. Plus, people liked the art but it wasn’t selling, so I solved that space problem.

Anyway, be gentle. This I pretty much my first totally from scratch art (non-3D) in a long time. It’s going to take time to get back to where I was.

The Veteran

Paint for your era, they say, and don’t take the excuse that ours is an era of decline. Not a top-hat to be seen anywhere. so I’m painting for my era, digitally, because digital artists are still artists.

But enough foreplay, this is a portrait of our generation. Each element is carefully chosen.

And I Ran…

This #digital #art finished rendering sometime in the early morning. It’s based on the #flockofseagulls song that was bee-bopping around my head last night. We have a #woman running into the #sunrise or #sunset along with some #seagulls but unlike them, she couldn’t get away guitar solo, and bad pun – #new #seascape #artwork #beach

Crone’s Day Off

I was not really inspired again so I figured, what do evil #witches do on their day off? After all, they can’t be evil all the time, right? Taking inspiration from the end sequence of the the movie ‘The VVitch’, where they’re all flying around at night, only this time it’s during the day, because, as Brandon Lee said, “it can’t rain all the time.” The lady is happy get away from #blackphillip for a bit to greet the #birds of the #forest and get some #sun – #artwork #digitalart #digitalartist #new

Flight of the Raven

A vibrant painting depicts a large, luminous moon surrounded by colorful clouds against a pink and orange sky. In the foreground, a dark blue bird with bright, reflective eyes appears to gaze toward the moon, an enchanting moment in the Flight of the Raven, framed by abstract, swirling shapes and colors.

My first finger-painting since the third grade.  I’ve always wondered how effective it would be. The answer? For a guy with big fingers, I can’t get any detail.  I’m going back to brushes for the next one, but it was fun to ‘roll around in the mud’, if you will, and stretch my wings.

As I’ve said, no brush touched this canvas.  It looks like it, right? The story, a raven soars in the evening sky, trees below and a gibbous moon riding high in the sky, illuminating it’s coat as it searches for a throne upon which to perch… or something like that.

Acrylic finger-painting on canvas (good thing its not the Middle Ages, where this stuff was not cheap). Comments welcome, I have mostly thick-skin 🙂

Portrait of a Chicken: Still Life of Captivity

An abstract painting titled "Portrait of a Chicken: Still Life of Captivity" depicts a bird's face, possibly a rooster, surrounded by vibrant, feather-like strokes in shades of red, orange, yellow, and white radiating outward like a sunburst. The bird's eyes, beak, and head are prominently featured in the center.

I’ve become bored with it, so I’m moving on. This painting evokes the confinement all beings find themselves in, hence the reds. The chicken represents humanity shackeled by our desires, and the eyes seek to capture the emotions connected with the human condition.

Acrylic on canvas painting 14″ x 18″.

Getting Past the Background

I’m finding it challenging to overcome a a certain aspect of painting.  I’m not sure about other artists, but backgrounds are my problem.  I’m not saying they’re challenging in that they are hard to paint, rather, that I find that I paint them in a way that I’m hesitant to alter them with what is … Read more
