Nature – Victim

So I throw all these words out to explain my #art but really, it comes down to mood as the #artwork progresses. This was first focused on #hair – I am not apologetic for objectifying luscious locks – then it moved into the #goth #vampire realm ( #notsorry ) and then setting back into #nature (which I love) – I’ll let you figure out how vampires are #victims and apply that to the damage humans are doing to our madre de #nature. I really shouldn’t even bother with trying to explain it, but for my three fans I will sacrifice :). I mean, it’s not like an influencer like Waagen is going to come along in 250 years and hawk my stuff to wealthy Parisians, while calling it emblematic of the American Golden Age to make a buck. But I digress. Hope you enjoy it.

Moon Goddess in a Box

What’s it about? Err, I don’t know. I may be a bit tipsy with creating this artwork – I do know that I started out with the idea of using the human body as a frame for what’s in the picture, so, goal achieved. She’s a regal woman constrained by the borders of the art, but she has power, as reflected in the claws on her tattoo – this won’t make sense in the morning, but who she is at night, with the moon behind her is not the limit of her power.

A Bird in Hand

It’s a silly title but I can’t think of another, except untitled, so I’m going with it. It’s yet another portrait of a fantasy beauty. Yawn, right? Okay, but created artwork is worth two in the artists head. Besides, maybe it’s not about the girl at all? Maybe it’s about camera settings, what you can see but can’t see. Maybe it’s a technical exercise. Or maybe it’s art and unapologetically about the girl. That’s the beauty of art.

In Our Defence, Silence.

It’s been exactly 10 days since I’ve been able to create art as it’s been wage-slavery for the last two weeks. I needed to create. Don’t like it? I’m wearing the Melania jacket today. Although I could have spent a little more in post-prod.

Why? Because, sometimes something just needs to be. I’m busting through stereotypes about age, about witches, and a third thing, which I forget.

Busy, but…

My time has been sucked up by other, more worldly needs lately, so here is another video of my artwork from around Spring. I created it in the bowels of the night while my insomnia had me staring at the ceiling. The music lends an Edward Scissorhands / dreamy feel to the composition. All the individual works are available on this site in various blog posts. As with all videos, some artwork may have been created prior to other but I’m doing these videos based on their order on my phone, some of which have been reposted or modified for light, etc. point is, don’t hold me to any timelines. If I ever become recognized / rise above the churn of much more talented artists on the net, I’m sure someone will catologue everything 🙂

Chapter 3 (March to July 2020)

I was super busy with my day job and totally not able to do any art today (sigh, again) so here is another chapter in the art of 2020. I feel like I’m missing images, so it’s probably not a complete treatise. As far as the background on each artwork? It’s in the posts. Hope you like it.

Video of Recent Art

I’m truly sorry I’ve not done anything in the last couple of days. I’m working through proposals at work (to pay for my art!) and skin cancer to boot, but last night at 3ish, I made this video of recent art (going back to October (ish). I’ll get creative again soon! I kind of want to do a full length video of all the artwork I’ve done, but it would be significantly longer than 2 minutes – more along the lines of an hour. Maybe over the holiday weekend.

The Joy of Flight

Remember when you were a kid, and you pretended you were on a rocket ship or airplane as you tried to swing higher and higher? That’s the feeling I’m going for with this. Whether or not I’ve achieved it is up to you, as that is the purpose of art. It’s a fantasy piece, to end a not so great year and bring in a new one full of hope, happiness, and dreams. I could explain the piece but I’m hoping you get it without that bit of tediousness. Happy New Year.

Medicate

No doubt this may be labeled NSFW, until I tell the censors that it’s art. This is about #depression – that black hound which haunts so many, including myself, and the tools one uses to breathe. It’s a self portrait, really, in all of its ingloriousness & probably an attempt to disavow any notions that anyone may have about my physical nature. The toll of half-a-Century on this mortal coil expressed in its full regalia, consumed by poor decisions, imperfections magnified by the waters of the disease, and the reaching for a cure that will never come. There’s more, but why be wordy?

Challenges were many in the creation of this artwork. Underwater is one of the hardest things to replicate in the constraints of my current software. So the ice is reskinned rocks, the bubbles are reskinned and modified confetti, and the splash is a raindrop, magnified 500 times, modded and reskinned in glass settings.

The Veteran

Paint for your era, they say, and don’t take the excuse that ours is an era of decline. Not a top-hat to be seen anywhere. so I’m painting for my era, digitally, because digital artists are still artists.

But enough foreplay, this is a portrait of our generation. Each element is carefully chosen.

The Haunting of a Tree

This is four digital art paintings in one. It represents the things a tree would see over a lifetime. It got messy putting them together, but art is messy when trying new things. I may turn it into a gif.

The layers I used are each represented below in order. Layer 1 is infancy and youth.

Layer two is love and hope.

Layer three is strife and conflict.

Layer four is denouement and loss. The ghosts become real.

I suppose it could be a snapshot of any century, but I relate it to the post-9/11 world.

Brave New World

This is a take on the lunar or Mars landings, but in this case, what if a dandelion seed was a lander? What if it was touching down on an unexplored world? After all, we’re all like planets drifting in the cosmos, our circles of friends are our solar systems, our neighborhoods, provinces, states, and nations are our galaxies. I like to think when we meet someone new it’s like exploring a new worlds, full of wonder, danger, and heartbreak, because it is. This painting is an expression of that on a micro-scale. Otherwise it’s new digital art that makes no sense.
