You felt it right away, there was something off about her, her elegance, how she smiled eerily at your vampire stuffed animal, ironically above you now – “Hold on,” your subconscious screams, “I’m not even old enough to know what irony is!” You begged them to hire anyone but her, but your mum and dad needed an overnight nanny, and they fell for that Sesame Street accent. “Oh, how cutely foreign,” your mom giggled, “privileged wankers!” Your subconscious meekly raises its hand, but you cut it off. “I know!,” you hiss curtly under your breath. Now, In the dark of it all, you’re paying the price. Plus side? Live forever. Negatives? They don’t make sunblock strong enough for what you’ll become. It’s enough to drive one batty!

State of the Arts

A doodle in reaction to the current environment for artists. The pandemic thew the community for a loop. It was already under pressure prior to the plague – even being voted the most useless occupation – though you need art to sell products and live in a semi-decent world. Post-pandemic? It will survive, the rich will still use certain artists as tax-shelters, the rest of us artists will still produce, but the point of this artwork is a point in time of how valued we feel. Gone are the patricians and the valuing of craftspersons. So, if you see someone doing this art thing full time (not me, I have to eat) maybe support their arts and/or crafts. P.s. this is best viewed with a full screen, on a phone it’s too dark. Maybe that’s the point as well.

Moon Goddess in a Box

What’s it about? Err, I don’t know. I may be a bit tipsy with creating this artwork – I do know that I started out with the idea of using the human body as a frame for what’s in the picture, so, goal achieved. She’s a regal woman constrained by the borders of the art, but she has power, as reflected in the claws on her tattoo – this won’t make sense in the morning, but who she is at night, with the moon behind her is not the limit of her power.

I’m truly sorry I’ve not done anything in the last couple of days. I’m working through proposals at work (to pay for my art!) and skin cancer to boot, but last night at 3ish, I made this video of recent art (going back to October (ish). I’ll get creative again soon! I kind of want to do a full length video of all the artwork I’ve done, but it would be significantly longer than 2 minutes – more along the lines of an hour. Maybe over the holiday weekend.

The Quiet Hours

I didn’t want today to go by without doing a doodle, so here you go. Technically mixed media in layers. Acrylic, water color, stencils, and a dash of magic. Better viewed on a bigger monitor, I can barely see the trees on my phone. But then, it’s a doodle, there’s more room for imperfections.

Unleashed

I didn’t want to let the first day of a new year go by without creating some artwork, so here you go. It was originally named ‘Flight’, but I used that yesterday. So I solved the conundrum and changed the name to the song I had on repeat while I was creating it; because one should credit where one draws inspiration, and it’s as much a part of the total package for me.

Now, for legal reasons and all, these two things are not associated, nor am I riding coat-tails. I’m merely sharing what inspired me. The song is ‘Unleashed’ by Two Steps from Hell (one of my favorite groups). The composer is Thomas Bergersen, and Merethe Soltvedt provides the vocalization. The Joy of Flight

Remember when you were a kid, and you pretended you were on a rocket ship or airplane as you tried to swing higher and higher? That’s the feeling I’m going for with this. Whether or not I’ve achieved it is up to you, as that is the purpose of art. It’s a fantasy piece, to end a not so great year and bring in a new one full of hope, happiness, and dreams. I could explain the piece but I’m hoping you get it without that bit of tediousness. Happy New Year.
