Weird title but better than ‘untitled.’ This portrait was a result of listening to Concrete Blonde music all day. There’s a couple songs about and older woman who outlasts the dudes she parties with. This is a representation of that, plus it’s normalizing beauty in aging.
I really don’t have anything artsy or insightful to say. I just wanted to create something with the single source strong light, and am ambient light, which was used a lot in Dutch / Northern Renaissance paintings. She’s bloody, she could use a shower, but she’s survived.
I classify this digital art as a doodle to save my pride. I briefly ran into one of my friends yesterday who has the most amazing eyes (from an artistic perspective – no more). Anyway, this was an attempt to capture them that went awry. She ended up looking nothing like her, so, chalk up another blow for the ghosts of realism that haunt me – this is why I don’t paint actual people by the way 🙂 Yes, there are ways to cheat, but I prefer the old-fashioned tweaking of 300+ facial components. Still, I created, so yesterday was not wasted.
I wanted to name this digital art “Boy” after the Book of Love song I was listening to on repeat while creating it, but that would be falling into a familiar rut. What’s it about? Three generations of women? Nope, it’s the same woman over a lifetime. From the brilliant light of youth on the left, to the darkness that clouds the end of life on the right, she’s the same being. I threw in an hourglass in case the viewer didn’t catch the eyes. The blur on the ends is a meta-whatever for how the future and past are sketchy and the present should be focused on. Maybe it’s trite, whatevs. Like it? You’re in an exclusive club of 4. Drinks all around. P.s. does anyone else hate the artsy “well the artists use of fuchsia means this and that”? I really just want to say nothing and let the Art speak for itself.
A digital painting for our times. The subject can be anyone in modern America, a veteran, someone with PTSD like a victim of sexual assault, someone financially ruined by medical bills or loss of a job, or a victim of mental health issues or addiction. Homelessness is not discriminatory, it can affect anyone with red blood running through their veins. The sad part is that most people will help a dog or cat out in the cold before they help their fellow man, hence the title.
I had to render this three times. Winter is a challenging thing in digital art. My first render I noticed 1.5 hours after starting it, that I forgot the effect of breathing in winter. It was a challenge to create, I ended up using a cloud with a lot of tinkering. 1.5 hours after the second render, I realized by looking at the reflection in his eyes that there needed to be a figure there to add that Je ne sais quoi, so there is an entire part of the scene you don’t see just to get that reflection. Yes, it’s a bit OCD for something that will be seen by maybe 10 people, liked by 2 🙂
What’s it about? Err, I don’t know. I may be a bit tipsy with creating this artwork – I do know that I started out with the idea of using the human body as a frame for what’s in the picture, so, goal achieved. She’s a regal woman constrained by the borders of the art, but she has power, as reflected in the claws on her tattoo – this won’t make sense in the morning, but who she is at night, with the moon behind her is not the limit of her power.
Queen G’elzanna was becoming impatient with the interlopers from the surface. The under dark was her world. They did not belong, even if they came with gifts. The Drow would not suffer long a ruler who made peace with the surface dwellers. Then one of them blurt out something that intrigued her. The planet was dying, and if that happened, neither surface dweller nor Drow would survive. She decided she would not throw them into the dungeons just yet.
It’s a silly title but I can’t think of another, except untitled, so I’m going with it. It’s yet another portrait of a fantasy beauty. Yawn, right? Okay, but created artwork is worth two in the artists head. Besides, maybe it’s not about the girl at all? Maybe it’s about camera settings, what you can see but can’t see. Maybe it’s a technical exercise. Or maybe it’s art and unapologetically about the girl. That’s the beauty of art.
This started as another portrait focusing on hair. I was nearly done and was, like, ‘meh.’ It needed something, so I popped in the first thing that came to mind, turning it into a portrait of life.
It’s been exactly 10 days since I’ve been able to create art as it’s been wage-slavery for the last two weeks. I needed to create. Don’t like it? I’m wearing the Melania jacket today. Although I could have spent a little more in post-prod.
Why? Because, sometimes something just needs to be. I’m busting through stereotypes about age, about witches, and a third thing, which I forget.
