Nature – Victim

So I throw all these words out to explain my #art but really, it comes down to mood as the #artwork progresses. This was first focused on #hair – I am not apologetic for objectifying luscious locks – then it moved into the #goth #vampire realm ( #notsorry ) and then setting back into #nature (which I love) – I’ll let you figure out how vampires are #victims and apply that to the damage humans are doing to our madre de #nature. I really shouldn’t even bother with trying to explain it, but for my three fans I will sacrifice :). I mean, it’s not like an influencer like Waagen is going to come along in 250 years and hawk my stuff to wealthy Parisians, while calling it emblematic of the American Golden Age to make a buck. But I digress. Hope you enjoy it.

Fearless

The genesis of this digital artwork is a couple things. First, I worked on it right after watching the Netflix documentary about Elisa Lam and the tragedy at the Cecil Hotel in L.A. This isn’t about her though, no connection, unless you want it to be a positive one. No cyber bullying, like what happened to Morbid. I’ve also done rooftop art scenes in the past, so it may be a theme of mine. Finally, the challenge was to make a realistic looking city without building all the city resources – which would tank my rig. I took the cheap way and created a 2D primitive with a city picture I found on Pinterest. The next challenge was to bring about a 3D feel, while getting the visual angles vis-a-vis the camera correct, and integrating the background with what’s going on in the foreground. After that hurdle, I had to get the ambient lighting of a rooftop correct. So, there’s the moon, the city below, the towers above with their red-lights, random rooftop lighting, etc., in order to bring it all together. Let me know what you think?

I’m truly sorry I’ve not done anything in the last couple of days. I’m working through proposals at work (to pay for my art!) and skin cancer to boot, but last night at 3ish, I made this video of recent art (going back to October (ish). I’ll get creative again soon! I kind of want to do a full length video of all the artwork I’ve done, but it would be significantly longer than 2 minutes – more along the lines of an hour. Maybe over the holiday weekend.

Urban Tree

Tonight’s drunk art is from my walk this morning. Before anyone tells me telephone poles are round…. Because drivers in my area are attracted to the poles, they are actually rectangular and thick, so it’s accurate – maybe not painted very well, but aesthetically correct. I should say something artistically relevant but I’ll leave it to the senses. Oil, ink, pencil, watercolor, and stencil, it’s a doodle-mutt. Now that I’m looking at it, that bird is huge.

Cherry Lightning Filler

This started as a scrabble on the canvas, and asking myself “What can I do with it?” Et voilá! I’d kind of like to scrub the tree and start over but there’s other ideas that need to spill out into reality. Why? It’s reminiscent of my early work, and I know I can do better. So, media… mixed of course. Acrylics, watercolor, pencil, pastel, and stencil.

Unleashed

I didn’t want to let the first day of a new year go by without creating some artwork, so here you go. It was originally named ‘Flight’, but I used that yesterday. So I solved the conundrum and changed the name to the song I had on repeat while I was creating it; because one should credit where one draws inspiration, and it’s as much a part of the total package for me.

Now, for legal reasons and all, these two things are not associated, nor am I riding coat-tails. I’m merely sharing what inspired me. The song is ‘Unleashed’ by Two Steps from Hell (one of my favorite groups). The composer is Thomas Bergersen, and Merethe Soltvedt provides the vocalization. I visualize the birds taking off at 2:50, or here:

The Joy of Flight

Remember when you were a kid, and you pretended you were on a rocket ship or airplane as you tried to swing higher and higher? That’s the feeling I’m going for with this. Whether or not I’ve achieved it is up to you, as that is the purpose of art. It’s a fantasy piece, to end a not so great year and bring in a new one full of hope, happiness, and dreams. I could explain the piece but I’m hoping you get it without that bit of tediousness. Happy New Year.

November Roundup – AKA No ‘Regerts’

Well, November is over. I came in at just under 21 pieces of artwork, or 70% efficiency. For those who may have missed one or two, I’ve collected all of November below. The last piece I did was technically published in the wee hours of December 1, so I have to include it there.

My Favorite of This Month’s Work

Why do I keep track? Art is what I do instead of playing video games (lots of time lost there in the past) or binge watching TV (also lots of time lost in the past) – but no ‘regerts’, as the meme with the misspelled tattoo suggests.

In all seriousness, keeping track helps me to realize the value of time, since, as an artist going for fame and glory three-hundred years from now, there is precious little of it. Time is the one irreplaceable thing we have, so I want to make the most of it.

Without further ado, I give you November.

So what was November about? I think my themes were generally the power and beauty of woman, irony (as always throughout my work) and hope. Thoughts? What did you see in the artwork? Commentary welcome!

Attila’s End

In the early spring of 453 AD, Attila, ruler of the #Huns was celebrating his latest marriage to the #gothic princess #Ildiko when he had a nosebleed and choked to death on his own blood. He may have had an esophageal rupture, an aneurism, or a genetic condition where a blood vessel weakens over time and eventually ruptures (I learned that from watching Dr. G: Medical Examiner – thanks!). Dr. Garavaglia often says she sees preventable deaths in the morgue due to drinking, and this death happened while drinking.. ergo… Who knows, had he survived, Europe would look a lot different today. Anywho, it was an ignoble end for a man who nearly conquered Rome, but fitting in an ironic sense for someone who thrived on bloodshed. This #artwork shows the moment #Attila’s body bids him adieu and checks out of hotel Mortal Coil. I went for a pseudo-classic #digital #painting totally inspired by drawings of the deathbed scene found while googling him for something totally unrelated. I was intrigued and wanted to put it in a more photo-realistic context. #art #digitalartist #new #history is fun!
